What is the Catalog & Promote Folder?
You may have noticed some new additions to our Feature Marketplace in the for of the Catalog & Promote Folder and the Action Item Folder. In this article we’ll go over the features of the Catalog & Promote Folder and how to use them.
What are some use cases of Catalog & Promote Folder?
Some use cases of this feature include:
If you have an app with a lot of Podcasts and you want to sort them by category or similar subject matter, you can use the Catalog & Promote Folder to help organize your podcasts.
You can use the Catalog & Promote Folder to show your church’s weekly bulletins in your app.
If you have a sports-themed app you can use the Catalog & Promote Folder to display the features of teams in the same league or division.
What is the Catalog & Promote Folder’s primary function, and what are the steps required to set it up?
Next, let’s go over the Catalog & Promote Folder’s primary function, and how to set up the feature.
The primary function of all of our Folder features is to house content, be that other features, text, images, or videos. The Catalog & Promote Folder was designed with media-centric content in mind such as videos and podcasts, though it can be used for a variety of reasons. If your app is content-heavy, and you add new content on a regular basis, this is a great feature for you to use.
Features
In the “Features” section of the Catalog & Promote Folder you can set up all of the features that you want to display in the Catalog & Promote Folder.
If you would like to add a feature all you need to do is click on “Add Feature”.
This will open up a popup window displaying all of the features that you’ve created for your app so far.
Go ahead and select the features that you want to display in your Catalog & Promote Folder. They will be displayed as “posters” in the folder, where all a user needs to do in order to access that feature is to tap on its image.
You can rearrange the order of these features by clicking and dragging these:
If you want to remove a feature from the Catalog & Promote Folder, click on the red “X” next to it.
You can learn more about how to create and enable features in this article.
Promote
In the “Promote” section, you can enable the ability for certain users to tap and hold on items. This will add a visual badge to bring attention to that item and give them the ability to send out a push notification letting people know about the item, all within the app. To enable the Promote functionality, check the box next to “Promote”.
In order for a user to be able to promote items in-app, they will need to have the required tag(s) that you set up in this section applied to their in-app profile. All you need to do to set up a required tag. You can type this tag in the “Give Promoting Ability to users with these tags” field:
Then add that tag to all of the users you wish to give access to this feature. You can do this in the User Management tab. If you would like to learn more about how to do this, we encourage you to check out this article.
If a user has access to the Promote feature, all they need to do in order to promote a feature is to tap and hold on the item for 3 seconds. When you first enable this feature, a pop-up with instructions will appear for users who have the correct permissions to promote items.
A prompt will display asking them if they want to send a push notification:
They can either send out a push notification or skip that option. The item will now have a badge applied to it.
If they want to remove the badge, all they need to do is tap and hold on the item for 3 seconds again and the badge will disappear from the item. All users with the required tag(s) that you set up are able to do this at the same time. This is perfect for if you’re at a live event such as a convention and you want to promote some time-sensitive content.
Breadcrumbs
The Breadcrumbs feature allows you to give an alternate way of accessing features in the Catalog & Promote Folder. To enable the Breadcrumbs functionality, check the box next to “Breadcrumbs”.
Once enabled, you have the option of uploading a background image to use on phones and tablets. If you would like to use an image for the background of the Breadcrumb menu, simply click the "+" within gray boxes for the Mobile and Tablet Header Backgrounds.
This will open up the Media Library where you can either upload a new image or use a pre-existing one. If you decide to not use a background image, the color set for the Title Bar in the “Branding” page will be used.
Just like the main Catalog & Promote Folder section, if you would like to add a feature to the Breadcrumb menu click “Add Feature” and follow the same steps for the main feature area.
The features added to the Breadcrumb menu will appear when you tap on the header of the Catalog & Promote Feature.
To hide the Breadcrumb menu, simply tap on it again.
Congratulations! You now know how to use the Catalog & Promote Folder and have been promoted to Catalog & Promote Folder master!
