The Folder plugin is one of the most powerful organization tools in Buildfire. It lets you group multiple plugins and features into a single section, making it easier for users to navigate your app and discover related content.

Folders are commonly used to organize resources, blog content, social links, internal tools, or any set of features you want to present together. You can customize the layout, add images and rich text, and control feature visibility based on login status, tags, or purchases.

Requirements

  • This is a Boost plugin, available on the Standard, Growth, and Business plans.

  • Any plugins you want to include inside the folder must already be installed (or added during setup)

How to use the Folder plugin

  1. Log in, go to Builder in the left navigation

  2. Click the + button to open the Plugin Marketplace

    • Search for Folder, then click Add Plugin

    • Name your plugin and click Add

  3. Stay in the Content tab

    • Add an image carousel at the top (optional)

      1. Upload one or more images

      2. Choose the rotation order and speed

      3. Select whether to display one image or all images

    • Add descriptive content using the text editor

      1. Use the WYSIWYG editor to explain what the folder contains

      2. Insert text, buttons, videos, images, or links as needed

    • Add features to the folder

      1. Click Add Feature

      2. Select an existing plugin and click Apply

      3. (Optional) Click Add a new plugin to install a new plugin from the marketplace and add it immediately

  4. Click the Design tab

    • Upload background images for phone and tablet

    • Choose a layout style (available options change based on the selected layout)

    • Configure layout-specific options such as:

      1. Line separator between content and features

      2. Text size and text color

      3. Hide feature titles (for image-based layouts)

      4. Image compression (improves load time but may affect transparency)

      5. Show notification badges for features with new content

      6. Show safe area to account for device notches

      7. Set the status bar background color

    • Configure Secured Feature Visibility

      1. Note: This setting only applies in the live app and is disabled in the Control Panel

      2. This controls how features inside the folder appear based on their Security settings:

        1. Enable: Feature is visible and usable for everyone (access restrictions apply when tapped)

        2. Disable: Feature is visible but read-only

        3. Hide: Feature is completely hidden from users who don’t meet the requirements

  5. Click the Security tab

    • Turn on Require Login if access should be limited to logged-in users

    • (Optional) Apply tag-based restrictions

  6. Click the Tagging tab

    • Apply behavioral tags to users when they visit the folder

  7. Click the Purchase tab

    • Require a purchase or subscription to access the folder

  8. Click the Analytics tab

    • View usage data such as views and engagement over time

Pro tips

  • Use folders to reduce clutter by grouping related features instead of adding many items to the main navigation

  • Pair folders with tag-based visibility to create personalized app experiences

  • Test secured feature visibility in the app preview, since it does not apply inside the Control Panel
