What is the Polling Feature?

The Polling Feature allows you to add timed single question polls to your app. This feature is perfect for when you want to get a quick summary of your users’ opinions or to gather feedback. In this article, we’ll go over a couple of ways that the feature can be used in different types of apps, how to set it up, how it’s used within your app, some pro tips that we think will help, as well as links to a couple of related articles. First let’s go over some of the use cases for the Polling Feature feature.

What are some use cases of the Polling Feature?

There’s a number of different apps that can benefit from having polls in them. Some examples of these are:

  • Educational Apps: Apps for educational institutions can use the polling feature to ask questions such as what kinds of foods they’d like to see in the cafeteria to what theme they’d like their prom to be. This is a great way for them to encourage their students to use their apps on a regular basis by holding periodic polls.

  • Lifestyle and Influencer Apps: Influencers know that they need to keep their followers engaged and one of the best ways to do this is to hold weekly polls in their apps that are related to the content that they’re known for.

  • Corporate and Internal Use Apps: Apps that are built for internal use within companies can use this feature to add some fun and levity to a typically business only app. This can also be a great tool to find out specific things such as what upper management wants to have for lunch that week during their weekly corporate meetings.

  • E-Commerce and Retail Apps: E-Commerce and Retail apps can use this feature to gauge their customers’ opinions on the products they sell or find out what kinds of products their customers would like to see them sell in the future.

What is the Polling Feature’s primary function and what are the steps to accomplish it?

As we mentioned before, the primary function of the Polling feature is to add a timed single question poll to your app. First, let’s go over how to set it up, then we’ll go over how it’s used within your app.

How to set up the Polling Feature

Setting up the Polling feature is extremely easy. Once you’ve added an instance of the feature to your app, click on “Add” in the Content Tab of the feature’s editor to add your first poll:

This brings you to the poll editor:

Give your poll a title and a start and end date in the “Poll Settings” section:

We recommend that you use the title section to ask your poll’s question. Next add the options that you want to offer in your poll in the “Poll Choices” section:

You can rearrange or remove the poll’s options using these controls:

In the “Poll Users Settings” section, you can adjust some of the poll’s settings such as adding the ability to apply user tags to users’ in app profiles when they take the poll. You can also force users to log in to their in app profiles before taking the poll and force users to answer the poll. Additionally, you can show the poll results to your users after they’ve taken it:

Once you’ve completed setting up your poll, click “Done” at the bottom of the poll editor to save your poll:

Congratulations! You’ve created your first poll. Now let’s go over how it’s used within your app.

How the Polling Feature is used within your app

Using the poll is as simple for your users as opening the feature in your app, then selecting one of the options and tapping on “Confirm” to submit their choice:

Once that’s done, they can see the results of the poll (if you enabled that option) or simply exit out of the feature to continue using your app. Now that you know how to set up the Polling feature and how it’s used in your app, let’s go over some Pro Tips that we think will help you utilize this awesome feature.

What are some Pro Tips you should know to help take your app to the next level?

Having worked with apps for years, we’ve learned a thing or two. So, to both help your app stand out and help you take full advantage of the Polling Feature, here are some tips you should consider.

Pro Tip 1: Try to send out new polls on a regular basis

Having daily, weekly, or monthly polls can be a great way to keep your user’s engaged with your app and can help encourage them to use your app on a regular basis.

Pro Tip 2: Use Push Notifications to promote your latest polls

With our rich message push notifications you can send out notifications to all your users whenever you create a new poll with a link to the feature directly in the notification.

Pro Tip 3: You can view analytics on your polls in you app’s control panel

As you create polls for your app you’re able to see analytical data on them such as how many people have selected each option, how many have answered the poll vs. opened and not answered, who your top poll users are, and more. You can view these analytics by clicking on these icons next to each poll in the feature editor:

Those will bring up these analytics windows:

You can also remove the polls from your list as well as search amongst your polls and show only active polls which is helpful as your list of polls grows over time:

Pro Tip 4: Add it to your side menu

While you can place it to your app anywhere, we recommend adding it to your side menu for quick and easy access. Assuming that you’ll be creating new polls on a regular basis, it makes sense to put the feature in a place that can be accessed anywhere within your app. If you would like to learn more about the Side Menu you can do so in this article.
