What is the Action Items Folder Plugin?

The Action Items Folder plugin allows you to create a searchable list of items within the app.

You’ll create an editable link button that navigates to the actual link. Those links ultimately become different in-app actions. There’s also a pre-description of the object listed in expansion, and you can add a search bar to the plugin as well.

Common Use Cases of the Action Items Folder Plugin

The Action Items Folder is really versatile. You can set up new action buttons for basically anything. These actions can link to other in-app features, plugins, and external links.

Here are some of the most common action types we’ve seen:

  • Calling a phone number

  • Sending a text

  • Opening an email

  • Opening a map

  • Open a notifications screen

  • Make a purchase

  • Sign up for a subscription

  • Link to a social media page

The list of possibilities is seemingly limitless here. If you’re setting up an action to an external link, you can choose whether or not the link opens in the app or opens in a native browser.

How to Use the Action Items Folder

Follow the simple steps below to add and manage new actions using this plugin.

Step #1: Add a New Action

When you open the Action Items Folder from the admin dashboard, you’ll see a button that says “New Action” in the “Content” menu.

A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to add an action or link. These actions are segmented into the following categories:

  • App Sections

  • Contact

  • Map

  • Purchase

  • Social Media

  • Web Content

To send the action link to an existing app feature, you’d select “App Content” from the “App Selections” menu and then choose the desired feature.

For the purpose of this tutorial, I’ll show you a really simple action example—calling a phone number.

For this selection, you’ll be prompted to add a phone number and action button text. Adding an image or icon here is optional.

Step #2: Add an Action Item Title and Description

After you select a new action, you’ll need to give that action a name. You’ll also have the option to add a description of the function.

Click “Save” when you’re done.

At first, the Action Item Title is the only thing that users will see on their screens.

But the action button text and description will show up when users expand the title.

Repeat this process for every additional action you want on this list.

Design Settings

You can customize the design of your Action Items Folder by navigating to the “Design” tab. To add a background image, simply click the “+” icon.

Browse through our stock images or upload your own image for the background. Here’s an example stock image that fits for a phone support action item:

Security Settings

From the “Security” tab, you can require a login for users to access this feature. This means that users will need to create an account.

Purchase Settings

Assuming you have purchases enabled for your app, you can use the Action Items Folder to monetize your actions with a buy button.

This can be used for a single purchase or a subscription. Start by enabling the “Require Purchase” field.

Then you’ll need to continue adding more information, including:

  • Purchase Button Text

  • Success Message

  • Error Message

  • Terms of Use and Privacy Policy

Action Items Folder Analytics

The Analytics tab of your Action Items Folder is very useful. It gives you the 30, 60, and 90-day usage statistics for the plugin.

This includes daily usage, top users, and details related to how users were directed to an action. For example, you can see what device they’re using and if the action came from a push notification.
