What are some use cases of the User Profile Action Folder?

As we mentioned before, the User Profile Action Folder is a great way to promote different areas of your app and facilitate easy navigation throughout your app. Some of the ways that you can use this feature are:

  • Travel and Tourism Apps - Using this feature, you can showcase different activities, hotels, or places to stay for people who are using your app while on their trips.

  • Church Apps - You can use this feature in your church’s app to help raise awareness to the different parts of your ministry such as upcoming sermon series, on-site events, or small groups.

  • Cooking Apps - Want to promote your recipes of the month? With this feature, you can show people what this month’s meal options will be, as well as give them access to previous months’ dishes or a preview of meals to come.

  • Fitness Apps - You can use this feature to showcase premium content such as workout routines, nutrition guides, and fitness advice that people pay for using in-app purchases.

What are the User Profile Action Folder’s primary functions, and how do you set up the feature?

The primary functions of the User Profile Action Folder are to provide users with easy navigation to the different areas of your app and to help promote the areas that you want them to go to the most. This is all done by using Action Items.

If you aren’t familiar with Action Items or the Action Builder, please refer to this article before setting up your User Profile Action Folder, as Action Items are integral to making the User Profile Action Folder work. Now let’s go over how to set up the feature:

How to set up the User Profile Action Folder

The User Profile Action Folder is made up of two things: Action Items and Sections. Each section is made up of the different Action Items that you create. Within this feature, Action Items are called Links and will be referred to as such for the rest of this article. Here’s how to create a Section:

The User Profile Action Item Folder now Supports a Text WYSIWYG.

This feature is just like our other Text WYSIWYG now you can use it in this plugin!

Step 1: Click the “Add” button under “Sections”

Clicking on the “Add” button will take you to the Section Editor.

Step 2: Give your Section a Title
Once you’re in the Section Editor, you’ll need to give the section a title. The title is required, but you have the option to hide it with the "Show Section Title" toggle:

Step 3: Select the Layout that you want to use for the Section

After giving your Section a Title, you’ll want to choose a layout for that section. There’s four layout options:

Toolbar Layout: This layout is static and you shouldn’t use more than four Links in it. We recommend that you put your most important Links here as this layout is designed more for navigation than promotion of elements in your app. We also recommend that you place this at the top of the User Profile Action Folder if you decide to use it.

Carousel Layout: With this layout, Links are displayed horizontally in a rectangular 2:1 ratio and users can cycle through them by swiping either left or right.

Horizontal Layout: Similar to the Carousel Layout, the Horizontal Layout also displays Links horizontally, but in a square 1:1 ratio.

Vertical Layout: This layout displays Links vertically with their images in a rectangular 3:1 ratio.

Select the layout that you want to use from the drop-down menu next to “Layout”:

When you select a different layout, you’ll see the recommended ratios to use for that layout’s images:

We encourage you to use the recommended image ratios so that your images will display correctly in the feature.

Step 4: Click “Add Section Item” to add your first Link

Now that you’ve selected the layout, click “Add Section Item” to add your first Link to the section.

Clicking this button will open up the Action Builder where you can set up the first Action Item (Link) for the Section.

After you’re done creating the Link, click “Save” in the Action Builder. If you need a refresher on the Action Builder, then we recommend that you check out this article.

Repeat this process for each Link that you want to add to that Section.

Step 5: Click “Save”

After you’ve added all of the Links to the Section, click on the “Save” button at the bottom of the Section Editor to save that Section.

Congratulations! You now know how to set up a Section with Links! Now that you know how to do this, you have the knowledge needed to continue to build out the User Profile Action Folder to fit your app!

What are some Pro Tips you should know about to take your app to the next level?

Having worked with apps for years, we’ve learned a thing or two. So, to both help your app stand out and accomplish your primary goals, here are some tips you should consider.

Pro Tip 1: Use the User Profile Action Folder to Promote Premium Paid Content

We mentioned before that you can use the User Profile Action Folder to promote content within your app and if you have premium content that requires an in-app purchase, the User Profile Action Folder is the perfect feature to promote that content. When doing this, you might want to consider offering some free content alongside the premium content to help give people a taste of what they’d get when paying for the premium content.

Pro Tip 2: You can add a personal touch with Custom Colors for the Header and Toolbar

Did you know that if you go to the “Settings” tab of the User Profile Action Folder, you have the option to set up custom colors for the Header and Toolbar of the feature?

Not only that, but you can create some really awesome visual effects using color gradients:

If you don’t decide to set up custom colors, then the color for the Header and Toolbar is inherited from the group of colors that you set up in the Branding Page of the App Dashboard.

Pro Tip 3: The User Profile Action Folder displays Users’ Name and Profile Picture for a personalized touch

More of a fun fact than a pro tip, if users decide to create an in-app profile they can upload their name and profile picture; that information will appear at the top of the feature whenever they access it and are signed-in:
